Tromsø by "The North Way"

It might not come as a surprise, but I obviously have a huge crush on Norway. I mean, what’s not to like – have you seen how beautiful a country it is? .. Today while surfing I somehow ended up on a blog created by a french guy, currently living in Tromsø, Northern Norway. I’ve borrowed both of these amazing photos from there ; The North Way. I have yet to figure out what he’s doing there, besides taking wonderful photos of Tromsø and northen light – but that is quite frankly all I need to be entertained.

A visit to this blog also led me to a blog directory called “Expat blog” where I found all sorts of expatriate goodies. You’ll be surprised how many people reside in another country, and blogging about exactly that. Finding all these blogs is like opening a door into an entirely different blogging-universe than what I usually find – very fascinating! If you’re just as intrigued, go check out Expat blog.

An expatriate (in abbreviated form, expat) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of the person’s upbringing.

The Flam Railway or Flåmsbana

Have you ever heard about The Flam Railway, or as it’s really called, Flåmsbana?

It’s a railway line in Norway departing from the mountain station at Myrdal on the Bergen Railway, going down to Flåm station nestled in the innermost corner of the Aurlandfjord. It’s a 20km ride, going through twenty tunnels, one bridge and with ten stops. It’s the third most visited tourist attraction in Norway. It’s one of the world’s steepest railway lines and according to most sources, it’s “incredible engineering”. Taking a ride on the Flåmsbana will give you the option of seeing Aurlandfjord, a branch of Norway’s longest fjord, the Sognefjord.

Too many facts right? Agreed, who cares about that .. The one single most important fact here is, this railway line has made it on my to do list in LIFE. Not like a to do list on a monday, but a “what I want to do in my life”-list. It’s a recent invention, so it’s not like there’s a lot on it yet – but this one is.

Back in February, I expressed my joy of the Magazine Isabellas, read the post here. I took shots of some of my favorite photos and pieces from the magazine, and showed them in that post. I remember feeling super excited about an article regarding Norway, trying to convince my sister that’s where we should go for the summer – no such luck. However, it’s not until now I’ve found out that the article I was so thrilled about, is the same thing I’m feeling thrilled about now – The Flåmsbana.

Here’s a couple of photos from my old post ..

This railway line is more famous than I was aware of, and I can see why .. It’s GORGEOUS.

I’m a huge Norway fan, without actually having had the opportunity to explore Norway. I’ve been there twice, one time skiing with my boarding school, the other time on a cruise which you can see photos from here. I’ve tried to convince people to go to Norway with me, especially Anja who’s not up for it at all, but guys really – how can you not wanna go when you see these photos? Norway is like the closest thing Scandinavia gets to New Zealand. I love it, and I absolutely have to visit sometime soon. I wanna go hiking, biking and think about life while viewing the landscape.
